The Smith and Wesson 4006

So, I get to it with my first .40 S&W from an old friend. I will speak more about this pistol in greater detail later.

First impression? Works like this:

It functions wonderfully and is a fine example of a third generation semi-automatic from S&W. The fact it came from an old friend makes it even more special.

More later.

  1. Third generation Smiths are some of the best handguns made. Rugged, reliable, accurate and precision machined out of big chunks of metal, like a gun should be. I’ve owned several over the years. I only have a 4566 now. Every once in a while I consider selling it. But it’s just too great a gun!

    1. I concur with your assessment of this handgun. It at first blush is a great weapon.

  2. Good for you!
I'm not a fan of .40, unclear of what problem it solves (9mm v. .45)
    HOWEVER
I did own a SIG 226 in .40 for a short time. Black stainless slide - tack driver.
You might look at them (?)

    1. Oh, I understand where the .40 came from. I will talk about it during my review of this Handgun. 226? GREAT pistol!

  3. I carried a S&W 4516 on duty as a police officer years ago... great gun... except for the weight... they borrowed it to anchor a freighter in Lake Erie once... hopefully the third generation .40 was lighter...

    1. Dann- It is a great gun as you say, but man, heavy as hell!

    1. Thanks NFO. The fact that you did not say that it did not work with your NPA speaks volumes.
