If I ever find this guy....

I'm gonna smack that headset right off! If I am seeing this guy:

it means I am in for a long day. Who is he you may ask? This dude is on the main Web page for Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley) tech support. This image perfectly sums up ALL of the photos on ALL RA documentation. Here is another example of people far, far, shinier and happier than you will ever be; even the rapture of new love pales in comparison to these people:

AT WORK no less.

See what I mean? What they fail to comprehend is IF I am calling them, MY STUFF IS BROKE, really and truly broke. A reboot is NOT going to fix it. I am not as happy or as shiny as they are about the situation.

So why did I have to go there? Silly, I bought a new PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) or if you prefer, "a big box with a lot of blinking lights on it" (actual comment on an install). I swear!

The programming software did not have this super new model. So a TWO GB download, 6 reboots and uh, ALL DAY, I can now perhaps program this thing.

I feel better! How was your Monday?

  2. i feel your pain....though I do not program the critter, and my laptop absolutely refuses to co-operate with the software nor interface with the unit so I can read the ladder when I need to troubleshoot...I find happiness in sitting on the floor with my schematics and prints and watch the blinking lights and find my faults that way. Find it somewhat less stressful.....and tech support??????? fuggedit

  4. Sorry you had a Garfield Monday.
Never had to deal with the programming end of those things. My job was the boring end making sure all the signals going in and out were accounted for on wiring diagrams.
But Allen-Bradley/Rockwell is so huge that finding helpful info on their website even about the I/O wiring is a bit vexing. Can't imagine actually having to get a real person on the phone to troubleshoot.
Hope that the PLC has no defects to complicate matters.

    Maybe Tuesday will be better.

  6. Allen-Bradley: You can buy better, but you can't pay more!

I've actually had very good luck finding documentation for anything I've needed on their website, but actual human assistance? Not so much.

  7. I'm guessing that there is actually *nobody* there who even looks like that and they bought some head-shots and group stills from a talent agency to decorate their website.
It's common with Lawyer websites where they have a layer of protection (and obfuscation) beginning right at the web.

    1. DC-Yep! I am sure that these photos were of stock models. Does not deflect my anger though!

  8. You should trade the PLC for a SLC... Simple Logic Controller... or the light switch as I call it... one flip down... darkness... call it a day... hope Tuesday is better for you...
