Bodyguard Update!

Remember this? I sent the second version of the Smith and Wesson Bodyguard laser that failed back to the home land. After oh, about 2+ months, this arrived today via USPS:

So the second replacement came in the baggie on the far left, this one came in the spiffy foam container. Pay no attention to the bolt or magazine on the far right. They will be back later as the bench again seems to be backing up!

So, for now the Mk.1 Mod III laser will be put into service. I noted that several have posted on the Interwebz about the buttons for activation not working. I find it interesting that S&W has sent the buttons (small gray things) with both replacement lasers. I must say that they send the batteries, the Allen wrench, and buttons every time.

So testing coming up! I don't really need the laser, but I am of the thought that I paid for it. If you have a Bodyguard, work the thing!

Some have posted about the lack of the .380 cartridge in a personal defense incident. I have to say that this would beat a stiff word and a rolled up Newspaper! It is all about tradeoffs. I would much rather have a 1911 or my M&P with me, but sometimes that is not practical. The .380 loaded with personal defense rounds and with the requisite mindset I feel would do well, and better than nothing at all.

  1. As we discussed, it's ALL about shot placement... Nuff said... and enjoy the laser!

  2. Have you thought of the LCR .357? 5 instead or 7, but I get rid of my .380 and feel more comfortable with the .357.

    1. Brock- No I have not but I have shot one, not bad! If I am carrying a wheel gun it it usually a Colt Detective Special loaded with .38+P.

  3. A friend just purchased a Ruger LCP with the Crimson Trace Laser... I hope it holds up... my LCP is old-school... "iron" sights...

Has this been a wide-spread problem with the Body Guard?

    1. Dann,

I broke the rule and bought one right when they came out. There have been reports of the Insight lasers failing as well as the activation buttons not working even if the laser is.

I think S&W and Insight have it ironed out, time will tell.

  4. The classic 380 in the pocket beats a 45 in the truck gun. And despite what many say there are situations/weather that you can't conceal a full sized pistol.

Speaking of such I've got a problem that I just e-mailed you about, I hope you don't mind but I'm stuck with something.

  6. Not bad. :)

I'm sure you know the saying: A .22 in the pocket is better than a .45 at home!

  7. I read a study recently that surmised that regardless of the caliber of handgun you carry, shoot the perpetrator twice for much higher percentage bet they'll stay down.

    So, double tap baby!

  8. I don't know anything about lasers or replacement parts, but I am with you on having a gun, even a .380 over nothing. There are times when it just isn't possible for me to carry a bigger gun, but I just can't see myself going totally unarmed, so I tuck my little LCP somewhere and I feel better than if I just had my purse to whack'em with...although I would if that was all I had:)

    1. A Girl,

I agree completely! LCP will work! I also think the purse wielded by you would be formidable as well.
