The Glenfield Model 75C has some problems. This rifle is pretty much the same as the Marlin 60 that ran through here recently. The magazine tube ring is toast. There are several other small issues with it as well. I know I can buy new parts such as the bolt and trigger assembly but I prefer to put original parts back into service if I can. Plus I think I have spent more time here now than it is worth. No matter.
Pretty good pitting and this is after minustrations with steel wool and other magic chemicals. Over several days. This is as good as its going to get.
So this shows up. A Remington double barrel shottie. I don't even know anything about it (yet).
Wait, I take that back. I do know something about this Shotgun! Either something lived in it or someone used it as a spittoon!
Sigh....
Oh, the Marlin 60? Ran great! Yeah me! And more importantly I was honored to give that rifle to its owner.
Believe it or not, I've seen shotguns in similar condition around farm country... I would also bet your seeing a lot of insect carcasses at the breech because this gun spent some time stood up in a corner somewhere that the bugs entered at the muzzle and never found their way out...
ReplyDeleteThe smooth bore of a shotgun (before it gets rusty) is a surface insects can't cling to or get a grip on to climb out so they're trapped, slipping to the bottom where they settle at the breech end of things...
I've seen them settled on top of shells loaded in a shotgun that had stood in a corner behind a door at a farm house for many years...
I bet it will be lookin' sharp when you're done with it...

Wow. I thought the cobwebs in Dad's old shotgun were bad...
ReplyDeleteOf course, I don't know anything about these guns, but I love reading what you have to say! Very cool.
ReplyDeleteOh... THAT is just pathetic... And I can't help but wonder what condition the barrels are in...
ReplyDeleteSigh is right. I've never understood letting firearms get into this condition. It's a shame.
ReplyDeleteI do not envy you that task. Still, the gun is cool and should be awesome when you get it done. Man, I wish you were closer. I've got this Stevens double that won't fire the left barrel.....
