A Note from the USPS

No really. An actual note:

My carrier is a contract Rural Carrier, so perhaps she takes it more seriously than the uniformed "real" USPS people. She will even text me to let me know she has a 47 pound box of bullets for me so I can meet her at lunch to get them out of her car.

For the envelope contents, rattle is OK!

Not the distinctive "PING" these clips usually make but close enough to make me smile on the way back to work today.

I think my mail carrier is keeping an eye on me. This week in addition to the Midway master catalog, I got a letter from the S&W Historian and this just today:

Gun parts catalog, SAF letter, and some lingerie catalog it seems.

As for the clips? I have some studying to do. I could always make the pilgrimage up to Lagniappe's Lair and get up to speed I am certain, but for now this will do for starters:

One is hopefully on the way!

  1. I start with one on the left on the bottom and work my way up so that the top cartridge is on the right. I know they're supposed to have fixed all that, but I like the way it works myself and the symmetry if you turn it over...

  2. Ah yes, Garand thumb... :-) And you should make a trip up when the weather is better, and we can take a bunch of M-1s to the range!

  3. I always know we've still got one leg up on the anti's each time the UPS fella leaves a sixty-pound box on the porch or by the barn with the blue and white OMD label...

  4. Thanks for the video, Stephen.
I downloaded and converted it, and it's now in my "M1_Garand" file!
I can hardly wait until I take the Appleseed course, and have my own M1.

  5. Garand thumb. Had it. Do not want!

  6. Also, I love the old school way of laying next to the ejection port of a rifle (Garand action, no less) and staring right into it with no eye protection. Ah, the good ole days.

    1. 45er- I feel that you do not like the M-1! LOL! So be it. No matter. To each. The training film was from 1943, so I think killing someone that was trying to kill you had greater import!

Many tell me to not fire the Colt 1902 because the primary failure of that pistol is to lose the slide lock and it will hit you in the head.

I shot a one hundred year old shotgun last month.

      Yeah, I'm weird that way!

I try to keep all of it in context. I want to shoot tools with the mark of history.

    2. Oh, no. I loooove the Garand, just not the thumb. My safe is full of old war relics that needed a home. I love them.

    3. 45er- I will keep that thumb thing in mind!

    4. Here's a tee-shirt every Garand owner should wear:

  7. M1 Thumb is a rite of passage. Everyone does it once. Can't be a real shooter without the experience.

And if things work out, we'll have to get you and Old NFO to make the pilgrimage to Camp Butner for the CMP Eastern Games this year. Meantime, get that thing and get it up here!
