It is Bad Enough on the '13

The V-8 2013 GT Mustang has a "sound induction tube" to port some engine noise into the cockpit.

They have taken it further in the '15 four banger. Really? Active sound fed into the stereo? Sigh.... Guess they can't really reproduce this anymore.

  1. Real muscle cars didn't need to hype or pretend. But today, it seems like it'a all about noise over ability, hence the multitudes of little jap cars with fart-pipe mufflers, pick-up trucks with deliberately smoky exhausts, and even production cars built to sound impressive rather than be impressive.

  2. LOL, why oh why do they play these games??? Nothing sounds better than a pushrod V-8 IMHO...

    1. Mustang II we never got. Any first generation from 1964 to 1971 has been here. We do not speak of them =)

  4. A modern V6 secretarymobile 'Stang would eat a '73 Mach 1 for lunch and not even spit out the bones, y'all. I'd rather have synthetic noise and real speed than the other way 'round. ;)

(Also: Blame the EPA and NHTSA and DOT. They're the ones who say a car can only be so loud when driving past. Also, most customers don't want the "BLAAAT" all the time; just when they're goosing it to have fun.

    Signed,
Someone who didn't have a radio in her daily driver Monza with a roll cage and fire extinguisher, and whose daily driver 340 Dart Sport set off car alarms with its straight pipes. It was a lot cooler when I was 19. ;) )

    1. Tam, I enjoy the advances in the automotive art as much as you and concede that many advances have been made. Do I WANT to drive the '71 daily? No. Yes, the current V-6 will smoke the '94 302 here. I was simply making a "get off my lawn" statement. Your mileage may vary see local dealer for details.

I think however that no one will be interested in the current 4 banger 2015 in 20 years. I think they might have an interest in the '71 though =)

    2. Oh Tam. Just a note. The 1971-'73 was the last of the longest heaviest Mustangs before the 5 mile bumper and emissions things effectively killed the muscle car in '72.

I'll let you drive the 2013 next time we get together =)

  5. I was a passionate fan of the muscle car era in my formative driving years. :)

Kids today don't understand what it was like coming of age in the early/mid-'80s, sure in the knowledge that the era of truly fast cars was behind us and before us stretched a bleak future of Omni 024s, 255c.i. Mustang "Cobras", and 4-cyl Camaro Berlinettas with video game dashboards to distract you from their dismal performance.

If you told 20-year-old me that within 20 years there would be street-legal, fully optioned cars that could match my stripped-for-bracket-racing, built-to-the-hilt small-block Monza in raw acceleration, I'd have looked at you like you'd sprouted a third eye in your forehead...

    1. I know, right =) Now I have double the horse power, double the MPG, AND heated seats?!

  6. Seriously? They ADD-in motor-sound through the radio - or even a tube??
Sheesh. Good thing I'm not into cars anymore...

  7. So...they are making Vrooom Vrooom! sounds through the stereo?
That made me laugh louder than anything in at least a week.
A mental image of the smart cars with the massive air foils on the rear from the movie "Idiocracy" immediately came to mind.

    1. Sigh. I concede Tam's point to a certain extent. I still don't like it =)
