The Laffey Made the News!
DD-724 hit the News over the weekend! Well, it made NBC News anyway. I am proud to contribute both time and money to this tin can. The veterans that served aboard it welcomed me with open arms, I actually had an Email conversation with a Sailor on board during the Kamikaze attack. I am a member of the Association and hope to get down there for the next work detail.

Unfortunately, the restoration of Laffey cost so much that there isn't money to restore the submarine Clamagore, and she will probably end up towed out to sea and sunk as a reef.
ReplyDeleteBob, the Yorktown will probably suffer the same fate I fear. As the Director of Patriot's Point said, when you talk about millions of dollars, he can't sell enough T-shirts to cover the bill.
DeleteThe Clamagore if memory serves was commissioned at the end of WWII. It survived and went up to GUPPY III mods if my old brain still sorta works. A great boat!
Sadly it seems that some would not choose to preserve these vessels.
That gave me a lump in my throat.
