On a Wing and a Prayer

So tonight as I prepare to teach again tomorrow I run across this on the front porch.

A bird has decided that for tonight my porch is home. Good enough for tonight after today's travels. This rung a bell. I have been here for over 6 years. Many modifications and dollars to make it "my home". They have been modest, but the bird makes me think. Dann at God, Gals, Guns, and Grub blog comments on some of this. For tonight I am glad to have my traveler. As someone once said: "A house needs two hearts, even if one is a mouse". I will take my winged friend tonight.

  1. We are all travelers in this life, some just do it differently than others.

  2. Shelter... just a place to rest with peace... even if just for a little while...

  3. Agree with both Matt and 4G... a quiet place to 'sit' for a while is good!

  4. If it brings you peace, then I'm all for it.

  5. Birds are nice as long as they aren't starlings. The cheerful twitter of the gold finches as they mooch the fresh sunflowers here is always comforting and colorful. You can have some of the voles and rabbits from my yard though if you like.

  6. Nice.

I love watching the sparrows around here. They're always welcome.

  7. You can tell a lot about birds by what they eat, by where they nest. For some they like to be high up in the branches alone, others slouched down in the grass. Some have nests, some do not. Where the water is located is vital some some, more necessary to their being than we can imagine.

Such it is with man, there are those that work quietly alone, and then there are those that will teach others, to whom they are in no way, shape or form obligated. There are men to live alone and prosper and those that pin their identity on those they roost with. There are those that strut like peacocks their ego and others that quietly work, sharing their successes and fears in small subtle ways, simply so others can understand, and therefore, learn.

The world would be a much lesser place if we didn't have all kinds of birds, and men.

    1. Thank you. This means much. I got the comment today as I was in the front in a classroom. Very subtle, profound and uplifting. Of course from you there is no less in this media.

      Thanks!
