So after running the M1 Garand class I decided to broaden my horizons. Young minds and fresh ideas and all that. I ordered a stripped lower and one of these.
I NO NOTHING about this platform and now am faced with assembly and oh other things like optics, sights, accessories, etc.
Any one give a guy some good advise on what to do next for this kit 'o rifle? It will be at the range tomorrow.
Um... Sell it cheep and buy more 30 cal??? ;-) You're going from a fixed set of options to O>M>G> options and accessories and... and... and... in other words a money pit!
ReplyDeleteI just looked at iron sights and optics and I have come to the conclusion that you are right!
DeleteGOOD optics cost more than the gun...
DeleteChrome lined barrel? If so let me know how you like it as I've a stripped lower to build up myself. Otherwise a good Aimpoint or holo sight, about 10 Mag Pull mag's and enough .223 to bankrupt a small country. Then spend money on quality training and enjoy every hot, miserable, sun burned and sweaty minute of it.
ReplyDeleteI will let ya know!
DeleteHey K, a noob question for you. with the stripped lower receiver and the rifle kit, do you end up with a functioning rifle once assembled (I am not being snarky here).
ReplyDeleteI ask because I've been considering getting an AR of my own (Belle has one already). The price on the kit o' parts looks pretty good.
kx59, this kit should be everything you need except sights, optics, and magazines.
DeleteA lot of good info online... but my personal favorites for folks new to building up AR's are the instructional videos offered free online (and via their Youtue channels) offered by Brownells and MidwayUSA...

Thanks Dann!
DeleteThat should keep you out of trouble for a while :-)
ReplyDeleteWhy Madam. The only trouble I run into here is some dude with two German Shepard's, a retired NFO, and looking into my refrigerator =)
DeleteYou do carry when you open the frig, right?
DeleteFor optics: Aimpoint PRO. Seriously, accept no cheap imitations. EOTech are ok if you like those, but avoid the cheap crap knock-offs. Back-up sights are good to have, and the Mag-puls that I put on my last build impressed me. Likewise, buy it PMAGS and you'l never be sorry. Then get it a good sling and a light and you should be set for anything. Then just wait for the Obamageddon and bring it with you when you come here.
