The .44 Magnum

Some got shot today in a Ruger Super Blackhawk.

The .44 Magnum is a third generation cartridge that owes a great deal to this guy:

One of the coolest parts about the back story on filming this episode is that for the high speed shots, they shot .44 Specials. That was to keep the gun in the frame of the camera.

A .44 Magnum looks like this:

Shooting .44 Specials was huge fun! It has brought a new life to this old gun that quite frankly is not pleasant to shoot with Magnums.  Thanks to my friend today for the video.

  1. The masochist in me so wants one, but the realist in me says you weigh 122 pounds. I just dont think my nerve damaged hands could take .44mag.

  2. My Super Blackhawk is in 45 LC. My .44 mag is a Redhawk and those stock grips do also bite me. I've got some Pachmayr grips on it now but they're too big for my hands. I'm considering calling Instinct and having a custom set made. Maybe an option for your SB?
