Sigh... Its sorta like going to work.

And coming home to more of the same. I got the call from the monitoring company and sigh.

I guess as time continues to spin faster, I forgot that the first thing I did when I bought this house six years ago was to throw the ADT alarm to the curb. ADT did not know what to do when I asked them if the hardware here when I bought the house was theirs or mine. They decided that it would be abandoned in place, secure in the knowledge that they would not divulge the installer codes. Heh. I did the equivalent of a Ctrl-Alt-Del to it and reprogrammed it. Just to make things more interesting I added additional stuff to it both wired and wireless.

So now it is telling me that my backup battery is failing. OK I should have seen that coming. No big deal. That was one of the first things I did after I brought it back to life.

I do hate to come home and deal with technical problems though. I would much rather contemplate upgrading the entertainment system to this:

Integration with the old stuff will require some thinking on my part.

I will not be buying one of these though!Read the reviews, they are funny as hell (Well to me anyway)!

  1. Our last technical problem with our alarm system was a little over two years ago... when our puppy chewed the sensor off the rear sliding door to the deck... alarm indicated rear door had been opened, they dispatched the sheriff's department...

It took me 20 minutes to get home... I beat the sheriff's department by 5 minutes... we do live a ways out...

    1. The alarm has most importance when I am here. When not, it is the last line on defense. Someone has broken through serious physical barriers. Yeah, I know about LEO response. I don't live in Metropolis either.

Why not? Gee, they are less than $10K new. Seems like a deal to me.......:)

  3. Our neighborhood is decidedly low tech, but we do have a proximity alarm. Whenever a stranger walks by, the neighbor dog Casey barks. If she continues for any length of time, Chloe joins in. Anybody with dishonorable intentions would be wise to heed the warnings.

Looking at the back of that DENON makes me wonder if there is any difference between the DVD, Blu-Ray, CD, media player, and satellite inputs. A dedicated phono jack I understand, but why aren't all the others just labeled Aux 1, 2, 3,....? Is the amplification any different on each of those inputs?

    1. Well, I hope the phono jack has RIAA equalization. As far as the others, I'm thinking the only thing different is the display on the TV.

You have a great deterrent system!

According to documents, it all works the same. New amp, I am still working a 15 year old one and jacking the PS3, DirectTV, phono, and other peripherals vexes me.

A Android app to remote control it? Apple Airport built in?

Oh, I might have to try it, but sad that Denon used to be "high end" and now no longer made in Japan and threw the high end retail people under the bus. Made in China now. You can get this stuff on Amazon now. I'm running 20+ year old amps still from them back in the day.

I have to try it just because it is expected of me to be on the cutting edge of technology. Even if the blood on the floor is mine!

  5. I think you're the guy Heinlein was talking about when he said specialization is for bugs. Dude, you can do anything. You need to come live with me for a couple of months.

    1. Six,

I play to my strengths here. Your construction project? Covered in awesome. I can't build a thing. I have no artistic bones in my body either. Maybe we can swap skills? I need a garage out back!
