So today people offered biscuits and jam for the morning. Me? I'm offering this tomorrow for my crew. Country ham on biscuits.

The Laffey Made the News!

DD-724 hit the News over the weekend! Well, it made NBC News anyway.  I am proud to contribute both time and money to this tin can.  The veterans that served aboard it  welcomed me with open arms, I actually had an Email conversation with a Sailor on board during the Kamikaze attack. I am a member of the Association and hope to get down there for the next work detail.

Networks. And Stuff.

So after dealing with a network all week that was less than sweetness and light I sought some cheap therapy tonight. 

First grab the LaserDisc from 1982.

 



















Then shove the LaserDisc into a computer. Capture the file. Then grab one of these for the computer. 

 













Then shove this to the TV from the PC wireless to the PS3. Th audio holds up well, video not so much. 



That works!  

I think this is cheaper than therapy! 



 

The Project Marches On!

Oh and yesterday's post about the evil switch? I had a comment from someone that I did not even see before here with part of the problem identified. Today I was greeted with this:

That is from one network segment to another one.  I can't get cocky yet though.  We are running out of time on the restart and I fear that a variant of this scenario is playing out:
KIRK: Time?
SAAVIK: Three minutes, thirty seconds.
KIRK: Distance from Reliant.
CHEKOV: Four hundred kilometres.
SULU: We're not going to make it, are we?

So tomorrow we are off to work instead of the range.  

Any Cisco Gear Heads Out Here?

So I have been putzing with one of these off and on all week:

With no luck I might add. 

I have discovered that under the hood, this really is a Cisco IS3000 Layer 3 switch.  All I want it to do is route between two networks on separate VLAN's.  The old 10.10.10.0 network is on copper at interface F1/4, the new network is at 10.10.20.0 and on Fiber interface G1/1. 

My old Cisco CCNA from 2002 has proven to be insufficient to the task so far and my old Jedi tricks are equally useless. 

I created a VLAN interface for the new network and gave it an address. Issued the command "ip route". I also gave it an address in the existing VLAN. I would pay real money if someone could help out here!  It's not like I WANT to call the happy smiling people at AB tech support!

So I found a bit of vintage sleaze.  Nothing that would cause a blink of an eye nowadays, but considered rather salacious back in the day. Oh, with a twist. 

When I stumbled upon this I immediately thought of some bloggers. Yes they have a way with people and I dare say many have more guns than I. It's not the guns that back up their way however, its the passion and diverse prose with which they tell their stories here in this medium.  I will not name names, I am sure you all know them. Two are Blog mothers to me.

So where did I get this paperback cover? 

It is not as it seems.  Mala Mastroberte is a contemporary  artist that attempts to recreate the paperback and magazine covers in the classic "pin-up"style. The amazing thing here is she does it all.
